We parked the car at your house, travelled down familiar streets. Our huddled bodies frozen solid, I felt mocked by proximity because you lived you life in the shadow of this place; spent a lifetime wondering when you'd be here again - just counting down the days. I wasn't feeling myself today (or that's the excuse I chose to make). My mind went blank, I couldn't contemplate everything that was at stake. Through the stilted conversation, the silent troughs, awkward smiles and fleeting glimpses that we made was a recognition of your pain. The hopeless moments in your life were redeemed by the slow passage of time. Determined and always strong for me; you accepted fate but forced release. You're burned into my memory; held captive forever, gated, under siege. What happened to the time, when did we get so old? I'm dragged into the past with every story that I'm told. My neurones fire and chaotically explode. Next time I see you you'll be home.

Privileges

With the privileges I'm given I do the best that I can but there's only so much anyone can take. My lineage was built on buried heads and broken backs; through lack of choice or lack of will. Its always hard to take the chance to take a second glance at what's happened in the past few years. I'm not the only one who's bored of one-way streets, tired accords and constant resignations. Struggles shaped by empty gestures, glory seekers huddled at the gates - fulfilled by exaggerated respect for their empty mimicry, you hold it dear as I move on. When all these thoughts are laid to rest, when all these actions said and done, ascetic principles aside I stood my ground, you chose to run. There's an arrogance in you that you can't recover from; so hold it dear as I move on.
